I can’t praise this disc too highly as it’s a joy from start to finish and has proved that the David Gordon Trio can give new musical meaning to a genre that can easily outstay its welcome in the wrong hands. These musicians are true master craftsmen and each plays his role with keen appreciation for the dynamics of the tune and their part in the trio the result of which is a perfect harmony of ideas and execution.
Steve Arloff - Jazz CD Reviews, MusicWeb International

Covering a formidable array of countries and music styles this is an impressive “grand tour” of Latin America with the mood of the pieces ranging from the joyous and celebratory to the sombre and pensive. The technical skills of the players are outstanding throughout.  Gordon’s notes talk of the possibilities of future “Speaks” projects and it is interesting to speculate about which region or musical culture he might choose to tackle next. In the meantime we have this very enjoyable album to sustain us.

"WOW! I just wanted to say that the new album is f**king killer!!! Man - you guys are monsters! Really liking the balance of lyrical stuff and groovy butt-kicking stuff. Anyway, I'm packing this sucker in my bag for heavy rotation on holiday. Congratulations! Well done!!!" 14/06/2013

Amazon - 5 out of 5 stars
Exceptional music by an exceptional trio!! This is one of the greatest albums you'll EVER hear!!!
David Gordon is a creative genius, and the sheer fun that they have whenever they make music, is so uplifting! These guys create is some of the most moving and exciting stuff I've ever heard and having been to a couple of their gigs, it's never the same! They balance frenzied energy and perfect climaxes with breadth, poise and tranquility. Most importantly of all, their virtuosity and daring never get in the way of the essence of the music, which they capture and hold onto from the very first breath until long after they playing stops, and the listener is left with a head full of wonder and a heart full of love.

The Best Trio Ever
The first time I heard Dave Gordon's Trio they were playing some of the cuts on his ' Speaks Latin' cd.... during a radio interview. I was driving home from work in Belfast and called him to see if the music I heard was available but that was a few years ago and he said they were planning on doing the CD soon.... FINALLY it is here. It was well worth the wait! This album is moving, peppy, fun, mellow, a real "get me through the day; traffic jam; over a bad relationship" kinda album! So glad it is finally here. Now that I no longer live in the UK my chances are less that I will see the Trio in person.... who knows maybe they will come to Tampa one day. If they do, I'm so there !!!!

This month brings the Kings Place festival (on the 10th September).
I'm there with two of my projects: A duo with pianist Nicholas Durcan playing the sublime music of the late, great Ron Littlefield and my trio with Naadia Sheriff and Chris Allard playing(/singing) standards, original compositions and a couple of early Nat Cole arrangements. It will be a great gig and it's FREE!...hope to see you there.
And, if you happen to be around Saffron Walden at the end of the month, the trio are playing a charity concert at the lovely Holy Trinity Church in Littlebury.

One of the July highlights has got to be the irrepressible Bushey Band with special guests galore including the wonderful Tina May (I'll be singing a couple of duets with her!!) add strings and things and you have all the ingredients of a fantastic evening. There are also a couple of free foyer gigs; the Royal Opera House and the Barbican. See the gigs page for all the details.

June is an exciting month for the David Gordon trio "Speaks Latin!" project with a special collaboration with Cambridge based group Zero Gravity at Fitzwilliam College towards the end of the month (see the gigs page for details).
Nice bit of feedback from our Kent gig too: "We were very privileged to have such a wonderful Trio performing for us...your enthusiasm was infectious...everyone enjoyed the evening; some said they went home feeling that they were saying goodbye to friends and many said they hoped that they would have the opportunity to hear you again..."

There are some gig dates coming up which will be posted here on the gigs page but in the meantime...to whet the appetite....I really like the way my tune Larmes Chaudes turned out (check out Naadia's beautiful playing on the intro)

Tour with the David Gordon trio, playing music from the "Speaks Latin!" project. The Swanage Jazz Festival promoter emailed to say: "universally agreed, one of the best gigs we’ve heard...."
We're in the studio soon so keep an eye out for the new album; it promises to be a real good'un!

Here's a little taster...

A composition of mine (Griffin And Sabine) from my 'Trio' (click) CD is being used on the Channel 4 program 'The Secret Millionaire'.
My drummer-less trio in concert, with Naadia Sheriff (piano) and Chris Allard (guitar), was recorded and filmed on the 28th. It was a great evening; Naadia and Chris both outdoing their usual brilliance with particularly nice versions of 'Larme Chaude' and 'It's All Over My Friend'.
Keep an eye out for new clips on this site and at some point in the not too distant future a vocal album of my songs
